The way to calculate the starting size of the folded squares is given in the classic Cathedral Window section on page 18. The small square of finished size 3in × 3in (7.6cm × 7.6cm) is cut 61⁄2in × 61⁄2in (16.5cm × 16.5cm). The larger square of finished size 41⁄2in × 41⁄2in (11.4cm × 11.4cm) is cut 91⁄2in × 91⁄2in (24.1cm × 24.1cm).
Making a Rectangular Cathedral Window Unit
1 Fig 11 shows the template for half of the shape, which can be downloaded at full size from http://ideas.sewandso.co.uk/patterns. Trace the shape on to a large sheet of paper, flip the tracing over and trace the mirror image to create the full template. Cut out the completed shape and stick it on to card (or use template plastic).
